Never Let Me Go

Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro was one of my favourite books that I've read in the last year. Ishiguro takes simplicity and turns into a new artform.

Today I saw the movie that was based on the book. It was good, even if for me, it did not reach the emotional depth of the book. Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley portray the three main characters, Kathy, Tommy and Ruth. My favourite thing about their portrayal is the social awkwardness and the warped perspective of life. That, to me, is the best part, and very true to the book.

I can't say much more about the film without adding spoilers, so I'd say...

Go read the book before you see the movie.

I love reading but haven't heard of this one. Might as well give this a try to have a break from reading fantasy books. :D

This extraordinary and, in the end, rather frighteningly clever novel isn't about cloning, or being a clone, at all. It's about why we don't explode, why we don't just wake up one day and go sobbing and crying down the street, kicking everything to pieces out of the raw, infuriating, completely personal sense of our lives never having been what they could have been

I've always tried reading the book before watching the movie.

That seems to have only caused me dissapointment, though (most recent case in point: "Eat, Pray, Love").

Think this time I'll try doing the opposite...

Good to know you enjoyed both book and film, though :)
